Cliffedge, Inc. ("Company," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of visitors to and users of cliffedge.app (the "Site") and the retirement income planning tools accessed through it (the "Service").
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By accessing or using the Site, you accept this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use (available at cliffedge.app/terms), and you consent to the practices described here.
Where This Policy Applies. The Site and Service are intended for users located in the United States. We do not direct the Service to, and it is not intended for, individuals in the European Union or the United Kingdom.
"You" refers to you, as a visitor to or user of the Site. "Personal Information" means information that identifies, relates to, or could reasonably be linked with you, such as your name or email address. It does not include the financial or calculator inputs described in Section I.3 below, which we never receive.
I. Information We Collect
1. Account Information. To use certain features of the Site, you must create an Account. Account creation and authentication are handled by our authentication provider, Clerk, Inc. ("Clerk"). Through Clerk, we collect your email address and, if you choose to provide them, your first and last name. If you subscribe to a paid plan, Clerk also manages your subscription record (such as which plan you are on and the billing cycle, monthly or annual, you selected) and connects to our payment processor, Stripe, Inc. ("Stripe"), on our behalf. Clerk manages your password or sign-in method directly. Company does not receive or store your password. Clerk's own privacy practices are described at clerk.com/legal/privacy.
2. Payment Information. If you subscribe to a paid plan, your payment is processed by Stripe. Stripe collects your payment card details and any billing information you provide at checkout (such as billing address) directly. Company never receives or stores your full card number. Company does receive limited transaction information from Stripe necessary to administer your subscription, such as the plan you purchased, the billing cycle you selected, subscription status, and payment status (for example, whether a renewal succeeded or failed). Stripe's own privacy practices are described at stripe.com/privacy.
3. Financial and Calculator Inputs: Not Collected By Us.The Site's retirement-cliff calculation tools run entirely within your browser. Any income figures, ages, filing status, or other financial inputs you enter are processed on your own device and Company does not collect them through the calculator itself. A Shared Link is handled differently, as described below. Specifically:
- Shared Links. The Site lets you generate a URL that encodes your calculator inputs so you can bookmark your own scenario or share it with another person. The inputs live inside the URL itself, encoded in the URL fragment, the portion after the "#" character, which browsers do not transmit to any server when requesting a page. As a result, this data is not included in Vercel's server request logs or in any analytics data.
- Saved Profiles. If you use the Site's save feature, your inputs are stored locally in your browser's storage only. This data is never transmitted to Company, and clearing your browser data or switching devices will permanently delete it.
You are solely responsible for any Shared Link you choose to create or send to someone else, since its contents are only as private as the people you share it with.
4. Information Collected Automatically. When you visit the Site, our hosting provider (Vercel) automatically logs standard technical information common to nearly all websites, such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested, as part of normal web server operation. These server request logs may record the full request URL, including any query string present on the page requested. Calculator inputs and Shared Link data are encoded in the URL fragment rather than the query string, so they are not included in these logs. The logs are retained for a limited period and are used for security and normal operations, not to identify you or for advertising. We also use Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to understand aggregate usage (such as which pages are visited and general performance metrics). These tools are configured to record only the page path, not the query string, so no calculator inputs, income data, or other financial information is ever included in this analytics data, even when such data appears in a Shared Link's URL.
5. Cookies and Do Not Track. The Site does not set cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking. Two categories of functional cookies are present. First, Clerk's own authentication session cookies, which are required for you to stay signed in and cannot be disabled if you wish to use Account features. Second, when you initiate checkout for a paid plan, Stripe's payment scripts load directly within the Site to power the embedded checkout experience, and Stripe sets its own fraud-prevention cookies (such as __stripe_mid and __stripe_sid) at that time to help detect fraudulent payment activity. These Stripe cookies are set only in connection with an active checkout session and are not used for advertising or cross-site tracking. Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" signal; because there is no common industry standard for how sites should respond to this signal, the Site does not currently respond to it. Regardless of your browser's Do Not Track setting, we do not use cookies for cross-site tracking, as described above. Because we do not sell or share your Personal Information, no browser-based opt-out preference signal, including Global Privacy Control (GPC), requires us to take any opt-out action.
6. Children's Privacy. The Site and Service are not directed to, and may not be used by, anyone under the age of 18, consistent with our Terms of Use. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have done so, we will delete that information as soon as possible. If you believe we have collected information from someone under 18, please contact us at legal@cliffedge.app.
7. Contact Form. If you submit our contact form, we collect the name, email address, topic, and message you provide. This information is transmitted to Loops.so solely to deliver your message to our support team by email; it is not added to any marketing list or audience.
II. How We Use and Share Information
Personal Information (your email, name, and/or subscription and payment details). We use this information to operate your Account and/or subscription, process payment, and communicate with you. We share it with the following service providers, who process it solely on our behalf:
- Clerk, Inc. — authentication and account/subscription management (clerk.com/legal/privacy)
- Loops.so— sending you transactional emails (such as account confirmations or contact form relay) and, if you don't opt out, occasional product updates or newsletters (loops.so/privacy)
- Stripe, Inc. — payment processing (stripe.com/privacy)
- Vercel Inc. — hosting and aggregate, non-financial analytics (vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy)
We do not sell your Personal Information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising or any other advertising purpose. We also do not collect sensitive personal information.
Marketing Communications. From time to time, we may send you product updates or newsletters via Loops.so. Every such email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect promptly. We may continue to send you non-marketing administrative emails (such as security notices, billing notices, or material changes to this Policy) even if you unsubscribe from marketing emails, as permitted by law.
Aggregate/Non-Personal Information. We use aggregate, non-identifying usage data to understand how the Site is used and to improve it. This Policy does not limit our use of information that has been aggregated such that it no longer identifies you.
Business Transfers. If Company is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your Personal Information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to the same or a substantially similar privacy policy.
Legal Disclosure. We may disclose information if we have a good-faith belief that doing so is required by law, necessary to enforce our Terms of Use, or necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Company, our users, or the public.
III. How We Protect Information
Authentication and password security are handled by Clerk using industry-standard security practices; Company itself never has access to your password. Payment card data is handled entirely by Stripe using its own PCI-DSS compliant systems; Company itself never has access to your full card number. Data in transit to and from the Site is encrypted. As with any online service, we cannot guarantee absolute security, and by using the Service you acknowledge and accept this inherent risk. If a security incident compromises your Personal Information, we will notify affected users and any regulators as required by applicable breach notification law.
IV. Your Rights Regarding Your Information
You may unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link in any such email. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your Personal Information by contacting legal@cliffedge.app. To make a request, email us from the email address associated with your Account so that we can verify your identity. We will confirm receipt within 10 business days and respond within 45 calendar days, and we may extend that period once by up to another 45 days when reasonably necessary, with notice to you. Upon a verified request, we will delete your Account information from Clerk, your contact record from Loops.so, and any corresponding data from our own servers, as applicable. Because we never receive your financial or calculator inputs in the first place, there is nothing further for us to delete on that front. Any locally-saved data remains under your own control and can be cleared directly from your browser at any time. Transaction and payment records held by Stripe are retained by Stripe in accordance with its own retention practices and applicable legal, tax, and financial recordkeeping obligations, and may not be deletable on request even where your other Account information has been deleted.
Your State Privacy Rights.Depending on where you live, your state's privacy law may give you the right to access, correct, or delete the Personal Information we hold about you, and to opt out of the sale of personal information or its use for targeted advertising. As explained in Section II, we do not sell or share your Personal Information or use it for targeted advertising. To exercise any right available to you, contact us at legal@cliffedge.app using the process described above, and we will respond within the same timeframes.
Retention. We retain your Account information (email and, if provided, name) for as long as your Account remains active, and your Loops.so contact record for as long as your Account remains active or you remain subscribed to product communications. We retain contact form submissions for as long as needed to respond to your inquiry and for internal recordkeeping. Following a verified deletion request, we delete this information within a reasonable time, except where continued retention is required to comply with a legal obligation, including the payment and transaction recordkeeping obligations described above.
V. Links to Other Websites
The Site may link to third-party websites, including citations to IRS and CMS sources. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of any third-party site, and this Policy does not apply to information you provide directly to any site other than ours. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.
VI. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or by posting a notice on the Site at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Non-material changes or clarifications take effect immediately.
